week 5~

Because of our friend was late, we, who are his buddy were waiting for him and late to get in to our Creative Studies class~ Before we step in to our class, we saw everyone was standing, it was just like last time when we're punish by our teacher in primary or secondary school. So were they punish by lecture? who knows if u're not part of it? haha. When we walk into class, oh.... so that's what happening.. "Yea or Yo", a new phrase by our Mr. Mustafa~ I've notice that this semester's Creative Studies' lecture seems to be a little different from last sem. They might bee doing some research and learning new stuff? That's good!

So today Mr. Mustafa taught us mind map. Mind map again? It seems like a hot topic that every subject been talking and teaching about. So the topic is "What is mind map to you?". Actually previously i dislike mind mapping because it looks so complicated and it's not fun. Studies... even with a mind map is also a studies.. so that's what i dislike about. But Mr. Mustafa tell us what we didn't realise it. Logical mind map. It is one kind of mind map and the other one is associated mind map. This week will be on logical mind map first~ "The Logical Mind Map is directly connected to stereotypes. The Logical mind map comprises of solely stereotype words. Which means that every word or image that is put within the mind map is directly related to the central subject through its links." and what's stereotype? it's like classic, but not that high class classic. For example, a Hawaii hat is a classic for street musician~

This logical mind map have attracted my attention because as i said, last time when i did a mind map was about studies but now i'm in Creative Multimedia! Anything is creative and different~ just like showing us to do a mind map of "Mortar & Pestle". Oh ya, mortar and pestle caught my eyes too! It was like a toy for me in my childhood! I use it to play around n help my mum in cooking! and it just look the same in this slide! even the material that was create.

Okay, back to the mind map. Mind map is some thing we keep spread our idea and link to another idea just like these

Logical mind map means even though the idea is spread to how many ideas, the small ideas will be still connected to the main idea and related to it too! Because study is still study, but right now, we can even do mind map in all kinds of things just like this mortar and pestle mind map! Not only that, Mr. Mustafa ask us what can we use mind map in? Many things! Besides studies, research or design or anything can use a mind map by helping people to know even better! That's why as a designer, mind map is important to us as well~

Week 3~

Today is the last day with Mr. Yap Sau Bin and he is as funny as usual. He show us the same file but different slide and taught us more about creativity, innovation and invention. Today is also the day that I came to learn a new word called "innovation" and I also only realize that Steve Jobs wasn't an inventor but an innovator.

What is the different about innovation and invention? Invention is someone create something new through new idea that is came from himself where innovation is also create something new but using or use some of others idea and edit it and add some of the idea from himself. Maybe I explain it in a complicated way, but that's what i get from it! And here's what I get it in my mind~

Besides these, creativity is the main thing we learnt today. Creativity is an ability, an attitude, a process. Everyone has creativity but it is just depends how do we use it. However, to reveal our creativity, lots of hard work is needed. Although being creative is hard but if we want it, nothing can stop us! That's why I've choose this "Creative Multimedia" course even I know i'm not that creative as those geniuses, but I'm willing to learn! Actually creativity is within everyone and anyone can be creative. As Mr. Yap Sau Bin gives the talk, we get to know more about creativity. That's not all, we also watch a talk on TED by Steven Johnson. The topic was : "Where good ideas come from". Maybe it is just me but i really think TED knows how to grab the right people to give those talks. It is not just only interesting, but also a information sharing place. Okay, Lets get back to what lecture gives us to do.

What does it tell us about the process of invention and innovation?

After viewing this link, we can know the main three subject, that is tablets, window and apple. Window that runs throughout most of the computer in the world is invented by Bill Gates and Apple which is invented by Steve Jobs. Where tablets is an innovation product! It is clearly written in that passage :"The company also believes that by 2016, tablets will have replaced computers in most companies and that more of us will become mobile workers as a result"

Innovation is actually a new idea which is created by a old idea or knowledge with the mixing of customers and consumers' need. Tablets is a combination of mobile phone with computer and an edition version of laptop. It tells us, innovation is always better than invention, but if there weren't any invention, there won't be any innovation. that's why both innovation and invention is very important. Both invention and innovation also require hard work and determination to get it done. Nothing is easy to archive but it isn't impossible. The process of invention is usually harder than innovation because invention is using things that exist and but using knowledge that haven exist and create something new that is helpful to everyone. Where the process of innovation is using existed knowledge and with advance technology with some new idea and create something new that is fulfill the needs of consumer.

Ask yourself what kind of environment, situation etc, would make you to become a creative/inventive/innovation person?


This link shows us how important of an environment and situation to make people to become more creative, inventive or innovation person. For me, there are few answer in my head.

First of all, friends are most important to create a good environment. As people said :"You depends your family when you're in home and you depends your friend when you're out are home".

How is friend important to make this environment? how could they make you creative? The matter a fact, they can! Whether your friends are good or bad, it doesn't matter because when you have your friends around you, you will talk whatever with them! They could have been checking out some chicks and just simple says, "it would be better if their skirt can be shorter". This could lead a person to think of something new and creative! why couldn't the skirt be shorter and nicer? ok, i create a mini skirt! WALA! innovation is created! not only that, when you're chatting with your friend, they might be complaining something else and it can lead to another creative invention or innovation. Because only your friends that are close to you will talk whatever stuff and there will be many idea although some are just simply talk. But every opinion and idea is very important or a designer and this can lead us to become creative, inventive or innovation person.






A place where everyone can put their own creation everywhere and can express themselves freely! Someone would say a place there's no body can make us calm and be able to think creatively. But if there's no body around, how would you know your work is creative? Not only that, creative is not a thing that cant be share, it is not something very formal or serious. We need to be CRAZY  to be able to be creative! When i mean crazy, is not mentally crazy, but being crazy! Besides that, when we saw other creative work, we might intent to be more creative than that person and create a fresh new things! Sometimes, creativity is born within another creativity, that's why idea sharing is important~ We're able to see other creative people works and make ourselves more hardworking! Not just that, a brand new idea might just pop out when we're looking at others' work. That's where innovation came from and also creativity is born again! As a simply law, if there's a strong opponent, we'll get even stronger! but if the opponent is weak, we cant be able to grow any stronger.... that's why, idea sharing is important and I think a environment which everyone can express themselves or their work is very important to give birth to another creative, inventive or innovative person.

Week 2~~

Today is our second class lecture by our cool Mr. Yap Sau Bin. He's a lecture, but he seems more friendly and actually he don't have a "lecturer" scary feeling but a normal friend feeling. That's why some of us dare to say joke in the class and he can accept it. Even though sometime it wasn't really quite relevant... Haha.

Today our lecturing is on creative stuff. As we know this subject is Creative Studies, that's why it couldn't run away from being "Creative". Suddenly, Mr. Yap Sau Bin told us to take out a paper and pen to write down 5 words that are associate and do not associate with creativity. Wow... it has been a long time using pen and it seems like a test! Not only that, it's so sudden that we have to squeeze our brain really hard to pop out those 10 words. But i didn't really figure out exactly 10 words at that moment XD. So this is also the question we're require to do. Let us continue our journey by looking below~






5 words that are associated to "Creativity" is...

Unique
Unique is a word similar to special. When something is unique, it means it can't be found anywhere else and it is special. Why people will call it unique? It's because it is very different from others and it can almost say as the only one! When something can have so much differences with the others, it is only creativity can lead to such thing. Not only that, when people mention "unique", indirectly it can relate to creative. That is where creativity have the ability to create creative idea and make something unique!







Technology

Technology is something made by human to solve human's problem or matter. Usually, technology is created to be advanced, so that it can improve living standards of human beings. But technology can be old too, when a certain technology has be created long enough or another technology have replaced this technology, this technology is not new and advanced anymore. It is said to be old. But even a old or new technology, technology needs a creativity creator. Why only creativity but not smart? Maybe smart is needed too but creativity is the most important requirement for technology.S o-called technology, is something in advance in the current modernity and what make it so special and needed by human beings? Not only because technology can solve human beings problem but it is something very creative, something anyone haven even think about or cant even create out. For an example, GPS, cars, elevator, robot, are technology that helps human being in many ways but the main idea to have the creator to create this technology is creativity. Everyone know what is the main purposes for satellite being in the space, outside of the Earth. It is to receive signal from other countries to let communicate with each other and to receive tv program. But the creator of GPS might think, maybe the satellite wasn't fully in usage. It can be it! It must have another way to help human.... than maybe he'll be thinking if i can locate a place or human with a device, wouldn't it be convenient? But only if everyone is robot, that's possible.... WALA! He uses his creativity to connect the satellite with his thought and create GPS! Beside this, in the olden days, who would have thought of cars? The only transportation was horses and no one can think of others... but somehow, creativity was born in one of us and a box of steel can be move without using horse or us to waste energy and we can travel by it! How about elevator? In the past, people know physic and learn how to use it in many ways. A simple example is using a wheel and a rope, something can be lifted from a platform to another. But a guy with creativity thinks of, what if it can lift people? There is where elevator was born and this is why technology is associate with creativity






Outstanding
When something or someone is called outstanding by the others, it means it is different from the others and special from the others. Everyone know how to differentiate outstanding and they may also can explain what is the meaning of it. But what exactly is the thing that make a subject outstanding? Beside being different and special, how can it be outstanding? What is the requirement to be call outstanding? About this, no one really know how to give an answer but today I am here to give you that answer. That is to be creative! To be creative, creativity is definitely needed! Outstanding need not to be the best among the same things but the most special among the others~ A simple example will be, every kids score 90 over marks but there is one kid score 100 marks. Why it is call outstanding? Because he is different from the other kids. By doing that, he needs a lot hardworking. This is what normal people will thinks. But in this kid mind, it wasn't like that! He wanna to be special, the only one... To gain that, he wasn't aiming for high marks nor the highest marks but the full marks. Instead of saying him being smart, he's being creative!





New
New stuff doesn't mean good stuff. New stuff is just something new, something that have never been introduce in this world~ Just like this picture, everyone is a circle but there's something new among them! That is a box! In our daily life, this sentence " there's a new video in facebook!" is very common. But if we analyse this sentence, we can get a lot  of information. Just as what I said just now, this "new video" is just something new, it could have a bad influence, it could be a disgusting and ugly, it could also be a artistic video. Even though, it is still new! No one have the ability to change this fact except for another newer thing has replace this new thing. Then it changes to old but now new. But do you thought how to create new things? before u think of how to create, the main problem is really how to create? In order to make something to be called new and haven been introduce in this world, we need ideas. Not just normal idea but creative idea! Because everyone's creativity is different and that's where new stuff can be produce by different people. Not only that, creativity is essential to produce new stuff! Without creativity, it is impossible to let an individual to create something new~




Ugly
Why i would say ugly is associate with creativity, it is because even a creative artwork, it can be beautiful or ugly. That's why ugly is still related with artwork. A ugly artwork is not a creative artwork but a creative artwork may be ugly. To define ugly artwork, there are 2 way. It can be skillful, be the artwork represent or draw a ugly, horrible, disgusting figure or in another way, the skill is not good at all and it is so called ugly. But although it is ugly, when it contains creativity, it is called creative works. But some how if an individual doesn't know to enjoy the piece of art, it is so call ugly. That's why ugly is also related to creativity











5 words not associated to "Creativity"

Common
As we know, common also means normal that also means not rare. It can not only be found everywhere but can be found easily too! When something can be found anywhere, it means that is not a creative product! when it come to creative product, it can only be buy in a certain place or only a certain amount or it can only be shown but not be sell! And that's rare! the opposite of common. That's why creativity sure has nothing to do with common because when it comes to creativity, it is something very rare, unique, but not common. Like sugar, it is easily to be found and the shape are all the same! they are common to each other!



Lame
We usually use lame on jokes, like "that joke is very lame...." "that was a lame joke!" etc.. If you know what I mean, then you probably get the meaning of lame and i assure you, creativity is never ever to be say lame. Why it cannot? because when there is creativity, it will be no existence of lame! Their relationship is like fire and water! they cannot be at the same spot at the same time together! Beside that, lame is something that cannot be related with lame. You cannot say this thing is lame but creative. Because when it is creative, it wouldn't be lame. On the other hand, you cannot say it is creative but lame too! Maybe it can be creative but ugly, but definitely not lame


Business
Business is not only for adults, but everyone! Even a little kid can make business. In a simple way to define business, that is deal. When a party make a deal with another party, for example a kid buy a candy for a creepy uncle, that is a deal and this is so-called BUSINESS! Business can be exist in many form and many ways. It can be a nasty business, fun business, happy business, non-profit business and many more. BUT it is impossible to have a creative business! Why? Because business is just like a law, we must follow the principle to have a business. If we didn't, this is a fail business and it cannot be called a business. At most, a failed business. The true meaning of business is the dealing of 2 or more parties whether there is profit related. That's why, it cannot be creative and creativity cannot be merge inside business!



History
When you talk about history, it is very boring! Thus, when something is boring, it cannot be creative and when it cannot be creative, don't even talk about creativity... History is about our past  and the stories about our ancestor. That's why, something in the past especially story, cannot be creative. Don't get me wrong, story can be creative but a past story like history cannot. And what i'm saying is, history don't have the creativity. It cannot have it! You may found it interesting in studying history or enjoy it or u even can study it in a creative way! But history itself cannot be said to be creative. Hence, it is not associate with creativity.





Service
When you reach to a restaurant and settle down, a waiter will usually come to serve you. That is known as Service!! There are only three type of services, good service, bad service or no service. There is no such thing to add creativity into service! You can say the restaurant is very special and creative but the service cannot be creative. Service, like business as I mention above, follow a rule that cannot be obey. Thus, creativity cannot be add into service. That's why service cannot associate with creativity.







Respond and reflect to Ken Robinson 2006 Ted Talk

This week we've watch a video about Ken Robinson on Ted Talk. At first, I thought it will be a boring-adult talk because that is what a "talk" used to be. But curiously, I didn't felt that way and in fact I found it interesting how the way Mr. Ken Robinson gives the talk. His topic is about "Schools kill creativity". It is the truth! To be precise, there is no creativity in school. Not only that, I'm happy to hear that Mr. Ken Robinson advocate creativity in education. Why? Because a plain studying as an education is very boring. For me, I hated when I'm in my elementary school. Everything is being limited and all the teachers are right, even when sometimes they're not, they're still right. We can't even unleashed the thought in our mind.. As Mr. Ken Robinson said, "All kids have tremendous talent". That absolutely right! We're all talented! But it depends on whether can we exert it. Not only that, what is keeping us from release the true self of us is ourselves. When we keep on growing older, we're afraid to be wrong or did the wrong things. That's why we'll prevent from doing it and there's where that prevent success from us too. "If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original", this is the same with we wont success if we are afraid to fail.

I like one of Mr. Ken Robinson's sentence, the university professors look upon their bodies as a form of transportation for their head! This sentence only apply to those who are so nerd! I don't want to be like this, I don't wan to put all my focus on my head only. Then what's the point for god to create our body? We must use all part of our body! But that's the thing that education didn't teach us about and that's what we should learn more about! Beside this, as Mr. Ken Robinson mention in his talk, adults usually vanish all the dream in kids. Don't do art because you wont be an artist, don't do music because you wont be an musician. Like in the past, my ambition was being a soldier or a policeman and there was once i told to my aunt and she told me "There isn't a girl would marry to a soldier or policeman" and she persuade me to give up this dream.... that's right, this is the reality. But now I've another wild dream that i'm pursuing, that is to be a game designer and a pro animator! At last, I really support what Mr. Ken Robinson said. It is essential for us
